As grandma mentioned in a previous thread, I have some news about a recent vacation I took.
Once again, I went with Fr. Joe, Mike Kaup, and Charlie Wozny to the Grand Tetons this year for some climbing. I got to carry all the heavy stuff cuz I was the only young guy there. I had been hoping that a couple of my similar-aged friends would have gone with me but both dropped out at the last minute.
The trip was nice and the weather was perfect all week. We encountered a couple moose and a lot of deer and a few elk. Didn't see any bears which I suppose isn't a bad thing. The bears probably saw us, though.
We climbed to within a couple hundred feet of the summit of Teewinot. A stranger encountered our group and thought he ought to tell us how to get to the top. He led us astray and by the time we figured it out it was too late to continue going up. We did get to the top of Table Mountain and we spent a long time deep in Avalanche Canyon camping and climbing on the side of Mt. Wister.
It was a good trip but it was exhausting. I had good enough company but its really good to be back home with my friends and family and guitars.
I'm not sure if I'll go again next year. I'd like to go out there with some people my age sometime.
I have a few pictures but nothing too exciting. My camera broke on Day 2. I was very disappointed and disheartened by this.
We left the park on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 4:30 p.m. I drove until we got to Nebraska at midnight. Then Charlie drove for about an hour and a half but he started to fall asleep so I drove the rest of the way until we got home at 7:30 on Monday morning. I would have liked to stop by and say hello to people but all I could think about at this point was bed. I stopped by the shop in Surprise to see dad and then I got a beer with some friends in Lincoln and then it was lights out.
I'm fully recovered now, I think! Been back at work and in my routine for a couple weeks now. Been contemplating getting back into school in January. Been playing music around Lincoln. Been chasing the cat around the house. Some of you may remember Dayla, the pretty gal friend from Benkelman I brought home for the fourth of July '07 and for Nick and Kendra's wedding. Well she moved away for awhile but is now back in Kearney and after getting reacquainted at my good friend Jonathan Zach's wedding I am now able to call her MY pretty gal friend and she is calling me her scruffy bearded bear fella friend. So that's been a good thing! (Not for the phone bill)
That's all my news for now! I'll be home the weekend of October 10 and 11 for a wedding. I'll stop on by the Aug Stronghold at 11th and 20th! Go Big Red!
